Did you know your dog could help save another pet’s life?

Just like humans, dogs may experience situations such as illness, injury, or surgery where a blood transfusion is needed. In these critical moments, access to lifesaving blood can make all the difference in helping a beloved pet recover.

Similar to human medicine, veterinary hospitals rely on the generosity of blood donors to maintain an available blood supply. Without compassionate canine donors, many pets facing emergency situations may not have the opportunity for a successful outcome.

That’s why Gill Bright Animal Hospital is proud to partner with pet owners in our community who want to make a meaningful difference. By joining our canine blood donor program, your dog can help provide lifesaving support to another family’s furry companion when they need it most.

Donor Benefits

Before your pet donates blood, our team will perform a comprehensive wellness exam, including a full blood panel, to ensure your dog is healthy and ready to donate.

We are incredibly grateful to every pet and pet parent who chooses to participate in our blood donor program. As a thank you for your generosity, blood donors will receive:

• A special blood donor bandana
• A complimentary nail trim and Dremel
• Recognition on our blood donor wall

Most importantly, your pet will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping save another dog’s life.

Donor Requirements

Joining our canine blood donor program is simple. If your dog meets the requirements below, they may be eligible to become a donor:

• Friendly and calm
• Between 1–7 years old
• Weighs 50 pounds or more
• Male or spayed female
• Has never received a blood transfusion
• Has a negative heartworm test
• Up to date on required vaccinations and heartworm prevention

Once approved, donors are asked to donate approximately 3–4 times per year.
